"Take life seriously: Nation and Society cannot be built without sacrifice. World peace is not possible without sacrifice!
Learn to expand your mind. Experience the grandeur of the world in which you are living and learn to be service to mankind – even at the risk of starvation and death, if necessary.
This attitude of living is the theme of all Holy Scriptures."
HIS HOLINESS HAZRAT KHWAJA SYED NIZAMUDDIN AULIA
Mehboob-e-Elahi; Sultan–ul-Mashaikh (R.A)
(1238 A.D. to 1325 A.D.)

2. Spiritual Lustre of His Holiness

In quest and search of a Peer, His Holines marched towards Ajodhan. The Jamat Khana of Hazrat Baba Farid (R.A) was a hermitage of bamboos, pillars and thatched roof. Here people from far off places came for repentance and lead a righteous life. People took Holy retreats, study the reality of Man and worship the Almighty Allah Tala. They lived only on leaves, shrubs, roots of tree and natural well water and were fully contended.

On completion of his studies His Holiness. Sultan-ul-Mashaikh requested Sheikh Najeebuddin Mutawakkil (R.A) to recommend his name for the Qazi post. Hazrat Sheikh Najeeb (R.A) advised him not to go for this profession. His Holiness took the advice earnestly and decided to concentrate on the life of dervishi.

His Holiness was close to Hazrat Baba Farid. After every Namaz, His Holiness counted his name "Shaikh Farid" ten times and "Moulana Farid" ten times respectively. The love to his Master was so great that whenever His Holiness fellow friends wish to ask anything from him, they forced him to swear by Hazrat Baba Farid’s name.

When Hazrat Baba Farid (R.A) was 94 years of age and His Holiness was advancing in his 20th year-both came closer! Hazrat Baba Farid (R.A) initiated His Holiness, Hazrat Nizamuddin Aulia (R.A) into Chishti Order. After serving for more than 75 years in the way of Allah Tala (God) and leading his men in the righteous way, Hazrat Baba Farid (R.A) was looking for a successor on the Chishti ladder which he inherited from His spiritual Master, Hazrat Khwaja Qutubuddin Bakhtiyar Kaki (R.A) who was crowned by Hazrat Khwaja Moinuddin Hassan Chishti "Ghareeb Nawaz (R.A).

His Holiness was welcomed at Ajodhan with great honour and warmth by Hazrat Baba Farid (R.A). Hazrat Khwaja Badruddin Ishaq (R.A) a highly qualified scholar and son-in-law of Hazrat Baba Farid (R.A) who was also the warden of Khanqah, was made His Holiness caretaker. Hazrat Baba Farid (R.A) used to admonish His Holiness gently and also suggested to loose the conceit he had developed as an "Aalim". Hazrat Baba Farid taught His Holiness the ascetic way of life. Fasting, prayers and pilgrimages were the essence of it. Hazrat Baba Farid advised His Holiness not to abandon studies for prayers, as both were necessary for a life of dervishi. Hazrat Baba Farid said to His Holiness that knowledge is essential for a dervish; otherwise it is difficult to tread on this path.

Hazrat Baba Farid (R.A) trained his disciple in a hard way. He lived in extensively impecunious and materially deprived circumstances. When His Holiness approached Hazrat Baba Farid (R.A) he was extremely poor and had only a pair of torn trouser. When the grandmother of Hazrat Amir Khurd (R.A) asked for washing and repairing the trouser His Holiness hesitated to offer. After much persuasion, when she gave her tresses for wrapping his body, he gave the trouser. While she was washing and repairing the trouser, he kept himself busy by reading a book. Hazrat Amir Khurd (R.A) says this favour of his grandmother was remembered by His Holiness till his last breath.

His Holiness narrated that once Hazrat Baba Farid (R.A) gave him an inkpot and ordered him to write amulets (Tawizat) for the people. Finding him hesistant, Hazrat Baba Farid scolded and said that many will come for assistance and one should not refuse any one. Thus Chishti Jamat Khanas were full of people wanting amulets. Hazrat Khwaja Qutubuddin Bakhtiyar Kaki (R.A) advised his disciples to write different names of Allah or Quranic verses on amulets. His Holiness, Hazrat Sultan-ul-Mashaikh (R.A) relates: that one day he was sitting with Hazrat Baba Farid (R.A) and a hair from Hazrat Baba Farid beard fell on His Holiness lap. His Holiness requested Hazrat Baba to preserve the hair in his amulet. Hazrat Baba allowed it. His Holiness kept the hair in a piece of cloth and brought it to Delhi. That hair embodied a great blessing! Whenever a sick person approached His Holiness for an amulet, the hair was given and in few days he was cured.
